Are Your Pallet Racks Damaged?

Once your pallet racks are installed and in use, it’s easy to take them for granted. They just become part of the furniture in your warehouse, and you probably don’t give them a second thought most of the time. That’s okay for the most part, but you do want to pay attention to their condition to make sure they aren’t damaged and posing a safety risk to you and your team.

Fortunately, there are some pretty easy ways to spot signs of pallet rack damage, as long as you know what you are looking for. Check out the tips below as a good starting point, and get in touch with Chameleon Racking LLC to have our team come out and inspect your current system and recommend any repairs or replacement that may be necessary. We are experts in this field and would be happy to help!

Some Pieces Are Loose

One of the first signs of pallet rack damage is components that are loose within the system. You might notice this when loading or unloading the racks, or you might just do a quick safety inspection and find that everything is not quite as tight as it should be. Fortunately, the fix to this problem might be as simple as bringing in a commercial racking contractor like Chameleon to tighten everything down and look for any other issues.

Sagging in the Middle

When your racking is in good condition, it will stand strong and not deflect under the load of your products or materials. However, if it is damaged – or simply being asked to bear too much weight, you might see some sagging. Even a little bit of sagging is cause for concern, so don’t hesitate to get help with this problem. Allowing a sagging rack to continue to work in your warehouse could lead to a serious safety risk, so don’t allow this issue to go ignored for any period of time.

Out of Alignment

This might be the easiest issue of all to spot, as long as you are looking for it. A properly cared for set of pallet racks will be nicely aligned from one end of a row to the other, and that’s probably how they were positioned originally. If something happened along the way, however, the racks might have gotten knocked out of alignment. Look down the leading edge of the rack from one end of each row to make sure they are still nicely organized and matched up with each other. If any of the racks look out of place, investigate further to see what may be wrong.

A Serious Matter

Given the important role that pallet racks play in many warehouses, you don’t want to take the health of this equipment for granted. Even if your racking is relatively new, it’s possible that damage occurred somewhere along the way and the whole system could be compromised as a result. Turn to Chameleon Racking LLC today and our experienced team will be glad to guide you in the right direction.
